The final chapter in a series of 3 mini blogs (Part 1 and Part 2) is here, lets take a look at the final offering from Cerveses La Pirata!
The last beer to be sampled was Block Tovarisch , a 13% Russian Imperial Stout brewed as a collab with Laugar Brewery. Very different to the other three in that the bottle design on this one is incredibly minimalist, and I have to say I prefer the more crazy bottle designs!

This one was quite the contrast to the other three I tried, pouring very flat and smoothly with basically no head at all.
My initial reaction – How is this 13%?? Absolutely none of that strength comes through on the initial taste, with it starting very thick and creamy with huge coffee notes. However the after-effect is this lingering heat from the high ABV that really warms you up! Perfect for winter!
This one gets a 4.00/5.00 from me, I really like the fact that even at 13%, it doesn’t taste strong. I actually imagine it wouldn’t go amiss if you followed it with a nice smoky whisky.
And that’s it from this mini-series! It’s been really interesting trying a range from a Spanish craft brewery with a lot of different styles and some great beer. I hope you enjoyed this new format, let me know if you’ve tried any of these and what you think! Cheers!
